Wai o Rua-Boat Safety
Our Year 5-8's were offered a course in boat safety which completes our swimming saftey programme. Our ākonga learnt about how to fit life-jackets, work with those on board a boat if you capsize and how to tread water until help arrives.
The tamariki were in groups and moved around to learn how to: get out from under a capsized dinghy, conserve energy and warmth by huddling in a group, throw in a floatation aid and how to pull them in, as well as how to float on their backs to conserve energy if they are in the water for a while.
We'd like to thank the TOI Foundation for funding water safety programmes for Stratford Schools.

Cross country - Pembroke and Central
Last year we had the opportunity to join with Pembroke to run a true cross country course and were excited to do this again in 2025.
We had nearly 50 ākonga compete, with a 1/4 of the school coming in either 1st, 2nd or 3rd. We were so proud of all our runners! We had 12 ākonga go on to compete in the Central Cross Country champs in Whakaahurangi Stratford.

Te Kāhui Ako o Taranaki Mohoao Kapa Haka
Te Kāhui Ako o Taranaki Mohoao Kapa Haka
Te kura o Whakaahu, Avon School participated again in the Te Kāhui Ako o Taranaki Mohoao Kapa Haka festival held at the Stratford War Memorial Hall on Wednesday 13th August.
This event is an opportunity for all kapa haka rōpu to come together as a Kāhui Ako and share the amazing talents, waiata and haka. Our kura has the opportunity to hear and learn from each other. Looking forward to Tātarakihi later on in the term where we will have another opportunity to perform for our community.
